rft
Commands

rft start

Start Docker Compose stacks for worktrees

Usage

rft start [indices...]

Starts Docker Compose stacks for the specified worktrees. When no indices are given, starts stacks for all worktrees.

Parallel Execution

All stacks start simultaneously. rft launches docker compose up -d for each worktree in parallel, so starting 5 worktrees takes roughly the same time as starting one.

Each stack runs with a unique project name derived from the worktree, preventing Docker Compose name collisions.

What Happens on Start

  1. The compose file is copied to the worktree directory
  2. Dockerfiles referenced in the compose file are copied
  3. .env is copied and port overrides are injected
  4. Any files listed in sync configuration are copied
  5. docker compose up -d runs with a unique project name

Flags

  • --dry-run — show what would be done (files copied, ports allocated, docker commands) without executing anything

Examples

# Start all worktree stacks
rft start

# Start only worktrees 1 and 3
rft start 1 3

# Preview without executing
rft start --dry-run

Port Allocation

Before starting, rft allocates unique ports for each worktree. See Port Allocation for the formula and examples.

You can verify the allocated ports before starting:
